What problem does your company want to solve? :
We currently 1. don't have enough female authors who have published their creative work, and are listed with international book stores. 2. don't acknowledge our cultural history and its custodians
What solution does your company provide? :
Tlhakakgolo BookStore is to platform and ensure the production of high quality literary products, as well as to facilitate their sale to empower authors. #Folktober Festival is to reflect on our past.
Describe your project :
Tlhakakgolo BookStore is a subset of Tlhakakgolo Literary Journal and an online startup medium that allows local authors and writers to have their work and products assessed and evaluated to ensure that they can sell, compete, and make an indelible mark in the local, regional, and international markets. At present, writers and authors have had to resort to self-publishing, which isn’t subject to the quality control exercises that publishing houses put compiled literature products through. As a result of that, the retailers that exist turn away their products, and they often resort to selling the products/work themselves, which is often of questionable quality. Through our medium, create processes that enable us to assess, evaluate, and ensure quality work is published and sold beyond the borders of Botswana. The #Folktober Festival is set to be a national celebration of our cultural history that enables us to reflect on how far we have come as a people and to celebrate our varying heritage, and through it, assess how it can help us develop our future. This, in a way, will also be an effort to document and preserve our cultural heritage.
