Describe your project :
Owanga is an on-demand electricity service in Congo, renting out and manufacturing Chisun battery packs for $2/day. This initiative targets the issue of unsafe, dirty, and unreliable power sources such as kerosene, generators, and candles which are harmful and costly. Kerosene alone is linked to over 600,000 deaths annually in Africa. In contrast, Chisun packs, made from second-life batteries and recycled bottles, significantly reduce environmental impact by cutting down 0.21 tons of CO2 per unit over its lifespan. Our service offers an affordable, no-commitment rental model powered by solar energy, alongside a purchase option for $250 and unit cost of production is $80. Each pack is cloud-connected, enabling us to monitor usage and location. This data aids partnerships with development agencies to accelerate grid integration for underserved communities, moving towards sustainable and reliable grid solutions. Owanga’s approach not only addresses immediate energy needs but also fosters environmental sustainability and community development
