Describe your project :
At the onset of the armed Anglophone crisis in Cameroon, I was forced out of school, losing access to education for a year. As a high school student at the time, this experience weighed negatively on my mental health. However, I was not alone. A 2022 UNICEF publication highlights that more than 1 million students have lost access to education in Cameroon. Inspired by my experience, I launched e-Mentor in 2022, an innovation leveraging Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) technology, to empower internally displaced students by enabling access to education from the safety of their homes. e-Mentor, a fully standalone headset, powered by renewable energy (solar panel), ensures seamless functionality even in remote areas lacking electricity and internet connectivity. With over 700 students already benefiting from my innovative venture, e-Mentor has demonstrated remarkable success. Students' academic performance has improved by over 34%, highlighting the effectiveness of my approach. Moreover, e-Mentor has received global recognition, including being honored with the prestigious Commonwealth Secretary General’s Innovation for Sustainable Development Award, presented to me by the president of the Republic of Kenya at the Kenya Innovation Week 2023. By democratizing access to education and leveraging cutting-edge technology, e-Mentor is contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) impacting 1 million students by 2030.
